Bright Planet: Hair & Skincare Product Reviews

Bright Planet Hair & Skincare Product Reviews

I am very excited to tell you about some new hair and skincare products that I’ve had the opportunity to try and review.  If you’ve read my posts Before You Buy Your Next Shampoo or Mommy Scientist Series: Why I’m Overhauling My Skincare Products (Part 1),  then you know that I am very cautious about the products that my family uses. I’m that person in the cosmetics aisle studying the ingredients list and googling them on my phone.

Diana, the CEO and founder of Bright Planet, found my EasyPeasyMom blog and reached out to tell me more about the company that she had founded and the products that she had developed.  Her company was brand new and she was hoping to connect with other like-minded people who were interested in cleaner, safer hair and skincare products.  Of course, I had a lot of questions. Diana was very forthcoming in answering all of my questions and I hope that you’ll appreciate her story as much as Bright Planet’s products!

How Bright Planet Came To Be

Bright Planet is a woman-owned business (actually just Diana at the moment) and all of the products are 100% natural, vegan, and never tested on animals.  Not only does she care about what goes into the products, but Diana also selects the most eco-safe packaging possible. She has worked in conjunction with a chemist to formulate the products, and the ingredients are all sourced from the US or Europe. Bright Planet didn’t just start as a random idea out of nowhere.  It largely came from Diana’s own health struggles with an immune-system disorder, breast cancer, and a BRCA+ diagnosis.  These things are huge contributors in Diana’s passion for fitness, nutrition, and maintaining a healthful environment.  What I find so great about Bright Planet is that it’s not just about the products, it’s also about creating a community of people who care about living a healthy life.  Aside from creating all of the Bright Planet products, Diana also works full time.  Talk about a wonder woman!

Doing A Product Review

*Disclaimer: I received these products for free in exchange for my opinion.  However, all opinions set forth are wholly my own.  So, I know that I need to put this disclaimer in, and of course I want you to know that I did not pay for these products.  But in case you haven’t already figured it out, I am very, very cautious about the products that we use.  Especially now that I am pregnant.  I don’t mess around with things, whether they are given to me for free or not.  Now on to the good stuff!

Inspiration Shampoo

I have been on the search for a sulfate-free shampoo that cleans, but without any of those yucky ingredients (i.e. parabens, fragrance, and phthalates to name a few). Bright Planet’s shampoo contains things like silk protein, chamomile and raspberry extract, and hyaluronic acid.  Read the Bright Planet Inspiration Shampoo Page to find out the specific benefits of each ingredient.

The smell of the shampoo was pleasant, but not overwhelming.  I hate overly scented products, and now that I avoid fragrance in things, it’s not a problem I encounter much anymore.  After shampooing my hair with the product, I noticed that my hair felt clean.  Like actually clean.  I used to think my old shampoos were doing an adequate job at this, but turns out they were really just coating my hair and creating a vicious cycle of need for more product.  With this product, my hair didn’t feel stripped, just clean.

Inspiration Conditioner

While this conditioner doesn’t feel heavy, it does a good job of moisturizing with ingredients like aloe vera gel, spearmint oil, and silk protein.  Again, check out the Bright Planet Inspiration Conditioner Page for the specifics of each ingredient.  I have curly, thick hair that I straighten, so dryness is always a factor for me.  The Inspiration Conditioner left my hair feeling soft, but not slippery.  Another thing that I noticed after using these hair products for about six weeks was that I had less buildup on my scalp, so instead of my once weekly ACV rinse (see here to read more about that), I have been able to do it every other week.

Orange Blossom Green Tea Facial Cleanser

Bright-Planet-Hair-Skincare-Product-Reviews-Facial-CleanserThis was the first product from the Bright Planet line that I tried and I immediately loved it!  The scent was subtle, yet refreshing, and my face felt softer after washing with it.  The ingredients contain properties that help with things like regenerating the skin, protecting it from damage due to sunlight, and stimulating collagen production. Check out more about the ingredients here.  I am super, super picky about what I wash my face with and tend to just stick to raw, organic honey, but this is definitely one that I will keep in the rotation.

Inspiration Sour Cherry Scrub

In all honesty, I’m not a huge body scrub person.  Not that I don’t need them or think that they can’t do great things for our skin, but mostly because I’m somewhat lazy in the shower and tend to stick to my normal routine.  Trying this scrub was a good excuse to change up the routine (and get rid of some of those dead skin cells!)  I hate scrubs (facial or body) that have particles that are too big and rough. Exfoliating yes, torturing my skin, no thank you.  The Sour Cherry Scrub was quite gentle (i.e. no big scrubbing particles) but my skin did feel softer after using it.  I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a gentle body scrub that is good for all skin types.  You can read more about the product ingredients here.

Bright Planet Products: Yes Or No?

Yes!  Yes!  The story behind Bright Planet and the products definitely drew me in, but the actual products themselves were what caused me to write these reviews.  Hair and skincare products are very personal.  What works for one person might not work for another.  Clearly we all have different hair types, skin issues, etc. I told Diana upfront that if I wasn’t a fan of the product, then I wouldn’t review it.  Her business is new and unless there was something blatantly wrong with the product, it might just not work for me.  Fortunately, this was not the case.  I have been using these products for close to two months now and I’ve found that they do indeed deliver on the product’s intent. All of these products will stay in my hair and skincare rotation and I am looking forward to seeing what other great products this eco-friendly business comes up with next!

Me too Angie! I love Bright Planet products and I am actually about to re-order some hair conditioner. I was trying to use up some stuff that I already had when I ran out, but my hair was just not liking it. It had gotten used to the good stuff like Bright Planet 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
